Toyonaka3: A Unique Residential House Designed by Shunichiro Ninomiya

A Modern Home Prioritizing Child Rearing and Comfortable Living

It is a building built in a small premises of Toyonaka, Japan. A couple and a house for two small children. The client's request is a plan that gives priority to child rearing and a proposal of comfortable space.

Designed by Shunichiro Ninomiya, Toyonaka3 is a residential house that combines functionality, aesthetics, and a focus on child rearing. The house is located in Toyonaka, Japan and provides a comfortable living space for a couple and their two small children. The design incorporates a courtyard to address the client's requirements and create a harmonious living environment.

The unique feature of Toyonaka3 is the shaped exterior wall that not only adds character to the building but also serves a practical purpose. The shape of the exterior wall is derived from the need to secure a parking space. By scraping off part of the parking space and trajectory, the exterior wall creates a sharp and distinctive impression.

The interior of Toyonaka3 is organized around the courtyard, allowing for good ventilation and ample natural light in each room. The courtyard is adorned with trees, creating a vibrant and lively enclosed space that can be enjoyed from every room in the house. This design element not only enhances the aesthetics of the house but also promotes a sense of connection with nature.

The construction of Toyonaka3 involved the use of wood as the primary structural material. The first floor houses a public space, while the second floor is divided into individual spaces. The courtyard, masked with expanded metal, can be seen from the outside, adding an element of intrigue to the overall design.

With dimensions of 9327 mm in width, 8190 mm in depth, and 7690 mm in height, Toyonaka3 spans a total area of 122.68 m2, with a building area of 70.76 m2. The house was completed in December 2018, following a project duration of approximately 20 months.

Shunichiro Ninomiya led a team of talented individuals including Tomoko Morodome, Yuki Hori, Tkakayuki Hama, Akihiro Takeda, Kazuhiko Hanai, Kozo Tatsumi, and Eiji Tomita, who also captured the stunning visuals of the design.

Toyonaka3 has received recognition for its outstanding design and functionality. It was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in the Architecture, Building, and Structure Design category in 2019. This prestigious award is given to designs that demonstrate innovation, practicality, and adherence to professional and industrial standards, contributing to a better world.

Overall, Toyonaka3 stands as a testament to Shunichiro Ninomiya's expertise in creating unique and functional residential spaces. With its emphasis on child rearing, comfortable living, and a harmonious connection with nature, this design sets a new standard for modern residential architecture.
